We call this future vision the regenerative production landscape. And we are already bringing it to life here, where we live – in a living laboratory… a physical demonstration area that forms the framework for innovation.

Here, we develop prototypes for the landscapes of the future through bio- and nature-based business solutions across sectors and industries.

And we explore how regulation and practice can work better together, so green technologies can be deployed faster.

Living Labs

A living lab is a place where new solutions are developed, tested and improved in practice – in real-world settings and in close collaboration with users and stakeholders.

Here, companies, researchers, authorities and users come together to test solutions in the environment where they are meant to work. The aim is to turn knowledge and ideas into action and create solutions that work in practice.

Regulatory Sandboxes

A regulatory sandbox is a controlled collaborative space where new solutions can be tested in dialogue with authorities.

Innovations are tested within existing – and in some cases temporarily adapted – regulations, allowing barriers to be identified and addressed early. Regulatory sandboxes reduce bureaucracy, promote innovation and support regulatory learning, where practical experience informs better regulation.

Regenerative Production Landscapes

A regenerative production landscape is one where production not only uses nature’s resources, but actively restores them.

Through the way we cultivate, produce and manage land, soil fertility, biodiversity, and ecosystem functions are strengthened. Production becomes an active part of the green transition, creating value for climate, environment and society.

Land Use

Land use refers to how land and water areas are used and managed.

The way we use land has a significant impact on climate, environment, biodiversity and resource efficiency. Sustainable land use seeks to balance production, protection, and use to create the greatest possible societal value within nature’s limits.

Biosolutions

Biosolutions are biological solutions that use nature’s processes and resources to address climate, environmental and societal challenges.

By combining biology and technology – such as microorganisms, enzymes and fermentation – biosolutions can replace fossil-based and chemical solutions. They are a key part of the bioeconomy and enable new sustainable products, processes and business models.

Ground-based Biosloutions

Ground-based biosolutions are biosolutions rooted directly in soil, landscapes and primary production.

They are based on local resources and tested in practice where the biomass is produced. They connect agriculture, nature, and bioindustry, creating solutions that both improve the environment and support local value creation.

Bioeconomy

The bioeconomy is about producing food, materials, products, and energy based on renewable biological resources.

The aim is to replace fossil resources with sustainable alternatives and create economic value within nature’s limits. The bioeconomy connects agriculture, industry and technology in new value chains that support green transition and local business development.

Ecosystem Services

Ecosystem services are what nature does for us – free of charge.

They include the benefits and functions ecosystems provide, such as food, clean water, fertile soil, climate regulation and flood protection. Ecosystem services form the foundation of society, agriculture and the development of sustainable and regenerative production landscapes.
