The fjord can clean itself, provide new food, and create local jobs.
By using biomass from the water wisely, marine ecosystems and businesses can move in the same direction.
From Mussels to Models for the Future
The Fjord's Potential
The Fjord as a Driver for Circular Value Chains
Fjords and coastal waters are among our most important – and most vulnerable – ecosystems. The Limfjord at Skive has had its water environment polluted for decades by nutrient input from the catchment area and wastewater discharges, weakening biodiversity and the fjord’s natural balance. At the same time, the fjord is deeply connected to local communities, businesses, recreation, and identity. So the challenge is not just environmental, but also social.
We see the fjord as part of the solution. Its natural processes hold huge potential to absorb and remove nutrients, restore marine ecosystems, and create the basis for new, sustainable industries. By treating the fjord as an asset – not just a problem – improved water quality, climate action, and local value creation can go hand in hand.
Our ambition is to develop solutions where nature, business, and people can co-exist. The fjord should be able to clean itself, provide biomass for circular bio-based value chains, create local jobs, and at the same time offer space for recreation, experiences, and life along the coast. Achieving this requires new ways of thinking about management, business, and collaboration – and that’s exactly where we step in.
How We Work
Nutrient removal and reduction
We develop and test solutions that actively reduce nitrogen and phosphorus in the fjord – for example through the use of blue biomass and nature-based processes.
Marine restoration and ecosystem-based solutions
Actions that strengthen biodiversity, seabed conditions, and ecological balance, contributing to a more robust and self-regulating fjord system.
Circular use of blue biomass
Using biomass from the water in new bio-based products and value chains, where environmental impact and business development go hand in hand.
Space for both business and recreation
We develop solutions that consider boating, fishing, tourism, outdoor activities, and local interests – keeping the fjord a shared space.
Collaboration across sectors
Close cooperation between businesses, authorities, researchers, and local stakeholders ensures solutions that work in practice and can be scaled to other fjords.
Nature-based solutions
The fjord’s power, our innovation, and the values of the future.
